Funded training courses for Textiles Manufacturers to help your business progress

Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW) is a programme developed to upskill employees within small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Leicester and Leicestershire. Serco provide recognised accredited qualifications and bespoke training courses to enhance employees’ skills, increase the competitiveness of the business and boost the local economy.

KTL is part of Serco’s network of expert organisations chosen to deliver the SSW programme in your area.

Because SSW is co-financed by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), we can support your workforce at no extra cost to your business.

SEG Awards ABC Level 2 Certificate in Manufacturing Textile Products (NVQ)

The Manufacturing Textile Products qualification covers the vast majority of skilled occupations in the textile and clothing manufacturing industry, with a range of optional units that can be chosen to reflect individuals work roles.

It has mandatory units that aim to increase learners awareness of vital issues such as health and safety, product quality and employability, benefitting not only the individual but the employer.  It gives them formal recognition for the skills they have developed and use in the workplace, while also assisting employers to meet statutory and customer audit requirements.

Qualification structure

SEG Awards ABC Level 2 Certificate in Manufacturing Textile Products (NVQ)

Mandatory Units

  • Health safety and security at work
  • Maintain the quality of production
  • Maintain the work area
  • Prepare for textile processing

Optional Units (1 to be selected for learner’s work role)

  • Produce textile products  (Machinist/Cutter)
  • Carry out quality control   (Inspectors/Quality Controllers)
  • Control the efficiency of textile production  (Knitters/Weavers/Continuous Dying)
  • Receive, store and organise materials (Line Feeders)
  • Package manufactured products
  • Maintain textile machinery

Delivery methods

All delivery will take place on the employers premises over a period of 6 weeks following initial discussions and completing the Training Needs Analysis with the employer.

Learners will be visited by one of KTL’s tutors once a week where they will be seen either individually or in small groups whichever suits the employer.  They will be given work packs and short assignments to complete before the following week which will then be assessed and feedback given.  In addition to this on a couple of occasions they will be observed carrying out their normal job.

All folders and resources will be provided by KTL.


The following eligibility criteria apply for anyone accessing support through Skills Support for the Workforce:

  • The learner has to be employed by the organisation (or self-employed).
  • The learner has to be eligible to work in the UK – evidence will be required
  • The learner must be aged 16+ (no upper age restriction)
